Macula
by Xpose
Negative film is the name for a photographic film that will give images which have their colors in- verted, after development. This inversion means that the complementary color is used. A second process (usually called making a print) is used to obtain any number of photos, which can also be in different sizes.
The theme of this exhibition will be negative film strips. This theme is related to our exhibition’s title. Macula is part of the retina at the back of the eye. The macula has a very high concentration of photoreceptor cells that detect light and send signals to the brain, which interprets them as images. Thus, this theme will lead us back to the fundamentals of photography.
We chose this theme, as we wanted to relate ourselves as a negative film. We came as undeveloped films, as time flows by we slowly became developed with the touch of the lecturers. Traditionally, films were developed in darkrooms with red lights on. Metaphorically, we students are the negative film strips in the darkrooms being developed by the red lights indicating the lecturers.
